A book can become so much more than a book.

I am excited about publishing books. But I am just as excited about what can happen afterward. A book can start a family conversation, reach a person in another country, support a workshop, open a speaking invitation, or help someone who has never met the author feel less alone. That is why our work continues beyond the moment a book becomes available for purchase.

None of this requires every author to follow the same pathway. Every story has its own purpose, and every author deserves room to decide what comes next.

Meet the Authors · Authors of Impact · HOPE FIL 2027

One gathering became a community. Now that community is creating new possibilities.

For more than a decade, Fathers and Families Coalition of America has created opportunities within its International Families & Fathers Conference for authors to connect with readers, educators, practitioners, scholars, professionals, and community leaders. I have watched books become bridges between people who might otherwise never have met.

Meet the Authors is more than a signing table. It is an opportunity to meet the person behind the pages and hear why the work matters. Authors can bring research, lived experience, professional knowledge, children's stories, cultural perspectives, and lessons learned through life. They do not need to publish with Borinquen Within Press to belong. The broader community is intentionally open to authors from different publishing pathways.

At the 28th International Families & Fathers Conference—HOPE 2027, April 11–15, 2027, at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport, that tradition will expand through the Authors of Impact | HOPE FIL 2027 Literary & Publishing Center. We envision a place where someone with only an idea can learn alongside someone who has already published several books. Writing, editing, design, publishing, author media, professional resources, and the life of a book beyond publication all have a place in the conversation.

The progression is simple to understand and rich with possibility: Read. Write. Publish. Amplify. Impact. Meet the Authors remains a welcoming doorway and social celebration. HOPE FIL expands the literary and publishing experience. Authors of Impact helps keep those connections alive beyond a single event.

There is an important distinction: Borinquen Within Press is one resource within this larger community, not its gatekeeper. We want people to discover authors, learn from one another, support meaningful books, and find opportunities whether they are traditionally published, independently published, working with a publishing house, or just beginning.

Ms. Mona Lisa Stallworth is helping lead the Meet the Authors experience for HOPE 2027. As the community grows, so will the opportunities for introductions, book conversations, professional learning, and author visibility.

From Borinquen to a Wider World

The story is growing beyond the places where it began.

When I look at what has happened in such a short period, I am grateful. We have been working with authors and projects connected to the United Kingdom, Australia, Florida, New York, California, Texas, and beyond. English-language and Spanish-language publishing are part of our direction. We have been able to bring together people with different cultural experiences, professions, creative talents, and reasons for writing.

And now another door is opening. Borinquen Within Press is listed in the Rights Hall company catalog for the 2026 Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. The fair marks its 40th year in 2026, with Italy as Guest of Honor. For a young publishing house, being present in that international professional environment matters—not because a listing makes us bigger than we are, but because it creates another opportunity to learn, connect, and help books and authors travel farther.

I want the person reading this to understand something. We did not begin with unlimited resources or a perfect blueprint. We began by asking how to do the work, finding talented people, and moving forward together. We are still learning, still building, and still opening doors.

A Living Community of Books and Authors

When one author is celebrated, we all have a reason to celebrate.

What excites me is that this story no longer belongs to one book or one writer. Authors are bringing memoirs, professional guides, faith-centered reflections, children's literature, and ideas for new books into this community. Each author has their own pace, approvals, creative choices, and goals. Our responsibility is to honor that individuality.

We will continue to introduce new books and their creators through the existing Authors of Impact and bookstore pages. As authors approve their profiles, photographs, covers, and descriptions, those collections can keep growing. I do not want to fill this page with placeholders or pretend every project is at the same stage. I want the work to speak for itself, and I want every author to be represented accurately.

Whether you are a reader discovering a new voice or a writer imagining your first book, I hope you will take a moment to explore the people already contributing to this journey. Their stories are different. Their purposes are different. And that is what makes the community beautiful.

A home for books that invite us to think, feel, learn, and grow.

Purpose Within began with my first book, but it is becoming a larger literary and learning platform. The bookstore brings together books about resilience, leadership, families, culture, faith, emotional wellness, professional development, and human potential. As our community grows, so will the voices and genres represented here.

I think about the parent who finds a children's story that helps explain a difficult feeling. The educator who discovers a new resource. The professional who wants to grow as a leader. The reader who recognizes their own journey in a memoir. The person who finds a book in English or Spanish and feels seen. Books can travel farther than any one of us could travel alone.

These two books represent one continuing journey: discover purpose, develop potential, and put both into practice. The bookstore is not intended to end with these titles. It will continue to welcome new published works and authors as the catalog grows.

Finishing The Purpose Within opened another door I hadn't anticipated. In less than a year, I completed a second book, Unlocking Unlimited Potential: An Evidence-Informed Reference Manual and Activity Guide for Personal Growth, Family Systems, and Professional Development. Writing this one felt different. It was an opportunity to bring together the professional development, learning activities, models, and experiences I had spent years developing and facilitating.

I selected 13 of my favorite workshop activities and organized them so they could be useful in different settings. An individual can use them for reflection and personal growth. A practitioner or educator can use them to facilitate learning. A leader can bring them into a team. A family-serving professional can adapt them to strengthen relationships, communication, and understanding.

My work over the years has taken me into community settings, universities, professional learning environments, and organizations across the United States and beyond, including Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and Canada. Different training programs and professional development initiatives have undergone reviews or vetting involving organizations and institutions such as SAMHSA's former National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices, Maryland public health entities, and the National Association of Social Workers. I brought that respect for evidence and professional practice into the book while keeping the writing accessible, with references and a glossary rather than making it a rigid academic textbook.

The joy for me is seeing people take something they learn and actually use it. A book can offer encouragement, yes. But it can also become a workshop, a professional resource, a leadership conversation, or an activity that helps a family or team discover a new way forward.

From the Page to the Community

Books can become conversations that continue long after the final chapter.

The ideas behind The Purpose Within have also become part of conversations about leadership, fatherhood, wellness, service, healing, and opportunity. Through author conversations, professional learning, keynote presentations, community gatherings, and book signings, I have been reminded that sometimes people need to hear a story, not just read it.

Organizations may also explore author talks, keynote conversations, leadership and wellness sessions, or bulk book requests for conferences, retreats, professional development, book clubs, veterans initiatives, and community programs. The most important part is finding the right fit for the people who will be there.

And because our publishing community is growing, those possibilities are not limited to me. Other authors may have knowledge, creativity, research, or lived experience that can serve a particular audience. We want to help make those connections thoughtfully.

The Blueprint of a Vision

My daughter asked me to write my story. It took nearly a quarter of a century to answer her.

In June 2002, I was a single father raising my son and daughter. I had spent years putting my own plans on hold because, as a dad, my children came first. I had also spent decades pushing my body through intense weightlifting and physical conditioning, beginning when I entered the United States Army at age 17. Outwardly, I looked strong. My chest, shoulders, back, and legs carried the results of all that work. But inside that smaller core, behind all that muscle, I was still carrying unresolved brokenness.

That summer, I took a sip of a frozen drink, and something happened with my heart's natural pacemakers. By the next day, I found myself facing a procedure that frightened me more than all the medical terminology could ever explain. The professionals told me they were going to stop my heart from beating and reset its natural pacemakers. They explained the procedure, but I couldn't hear anything beyond those few words: stop my heart from beating.

Well, obviously, I am here writing to you. The procedure worked. But I came away with a deeper awareness that the strength people see on the outside does not always tell them what is happening within us.

Shortly afterward, my daughter gave me a journal and asked me to write my story for her. I held on to that request for almost twenty-five years. I lived, I worked, I served, I raised my children, I learned, and I kept that promise waiting. Eventually, I understood that the time had come to stop waiting and begin writing.

What became The Purpose Within: Rise Out of the Ashes Like the Phoenix was written first for my children—my son, my older daughter who gave me the journal, and my youngest daughter, born the following year. It was also written with love for my grandmother, my grandfather, and the people whose presence, guidance, friendship, and spirit have continued to shape my life. Some are still walking this world. Others live on through the love they left behind.

Launched in April 2026 and relaunched in August after extensive editing, the book was not an overnight achievement. It was a long conversation with life itself. I had been encouraged to shorten the manuscript or break it into separate books. But I wanted to tell the story through the seasons of life, in the way I understood them. I wanted to keep the voice, the humor, the grief, the lessons, the love, and the humanity together.

One of the chapters closest to my heart is the one I placed at the very end, even though I wrote it while I was still working through the manuscript: “Never the End. Never Goodbye. Just I Love You.” I wanted the people who had walked beside me, and the people who might one day read these pages, to understand that love and purpose do not simply disappear when a chapter closes.

The book began with a daughter's request. What followed taught me that a voice can become a legacy—and that a legacy can make room for other voices.

Where are you in your rising?

The book moves through Spring, Summer, Harvest, and Winter. Not as decoration, but as a way of understanding the different seasons we experience, sometimes more than one at a time. We are not all in the same place. We do not heal, grow, forgive, lead, or discover our purpose on someone else's timetable.

Maybe you recognize yourself in one of these seasons. Maybe you recognize someone you love. The question is not whether your life has been difficult. The question is what you may still discover, heal, create, or offer as you continue becoming.

These reflections are not instructions to live life exactly as I have. They are invitations to consider the chapters you have lived and the chapters you have yet to write.

The reader reflections throughout the book are an invitation to participate, not merely observe. My hope is that you will find moments to pause and ask what the story means for your own life.
